Day 8: Prayers for a Servant's Heart

"The LORD is far from the wicked, but he hears the prayer of the righteous."
Proverbs 15:29

Day 8: Servant's Heart

"For you have been called to live in freedom, my brothers and sisters. But don't use your freedom to satisfy your sinful nature. Instead, use your freedom to serve one another in love." Galatians 5:13

God has called us to one thing and one thing only, servanthood. There is one question we should ask ourselves with every single decision we make and it is not, "Will this make me happy?" Instead we should be asking, "Will this make God happy?" Will our lives be pleasing unto Him? The one way that we can ensure our lives will be pleasing unto Him is to live our lives serving others. God has called us to freedom, but as Galatians states that freedom can be used in two separate ways, to serve God or to serve our flesh. We should choose God every single time. "As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God's varied grace: whoever speaks, as one who speaks oracles of God; whoever serves, as one who serves by the strength that God supplies—in order that in everything God may be glorified through Jesus Christ. To him belong glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen." I Peter 4:10-11

Let us model for our sons a true servant's heart. Let us pray that our sons will always make the decision to serve God and in turn serve others rather than choosing to serve their own flesh. The hardest decision we have to make is to choose God or to chose man. It sounds like such a simple choice, and when asked we will say we chose God every single time, but do we really? How much of what we do is based on our own fleshly desires, our selfish nature, and our desire for fulfillment? Although we may not choose God each and every time, know that we have the ability to do so. We should strive to make this choice consciously, to recognize when we are giving in to our flesh and decide instead to turn to the spirit.

Lord, we pray that our sons will die to themselves daily, that they will set aside all the desires of the flesh and choose instead to turn to you in all things. God, we pray that their hearts and minds will be so fixed on You, that every step they take will be for you. Lord, grant them the heart of a servant. Allow them to learn the joy of putting others above themselves in all things. May they seek out opportunities to do your work daily, Lord. May they be a living example of Christ to everyone they come in contact with. Lord, we pray that we will model this heart for our sons and that our family will be a family of servants. God, all we do is for you, may we always put you first...

AMEN.
