Day 6: Prayers for Pride

"Arise, cry out in the night...pour out your heart like water before the presence of the Lord; lift up your hands to Him for the life of your little ones..." Lamentations 2:19a

Day 6: Pride

"Thus says the Lord, 'Let not a wise man boast of his wisdom, and let not the mighty man boast of his might, let not a rich man boast of his riches; but let him who boasts boast of this, that he understands and knows Me, that I am the Lord who exercises loving kindness, justice and righteousness on earth; for I delight in these things,' declares the Lord." Jeremiah 9:23-24

Oh how I pray my sons can understand humility. I pray that they can come to the realization that every single thing we have is from the Lord. Be it a physical trait, our mental ability, a certain opportunity, or a spiritual gift. There is nothing more harmful to the Kingdom of God than a leader who has fallen victim to his own pride. See all of the happenings in the media world lately. Pastors who have strayed from their families, pastors who have strayed from Biblical teachings, pastors who have come to believe it is their doing rather than the doing of God when something great happens.

Imagine the harm that can come to a family from having the spiritual head falling victim to pride. Imagine the good that can come to our sons lives if instead they practice humility in their spiritual life, in their homes, in their jobs, in their personal victories. To God be all the glory, and let us always remember that He warned us in Scripture that "Pride cometh before a fall." Lord, we pray our sons will never know the defeat that comes from a pride-filled life.

Lord, we pray against pride in our sons' lives. We pray  that humility and grace and love instead will full their lives and their hearts. Bring into them a conviction against all prideful things in their lives. Let us be a model of humbleness to them, Lord, accepting honor only in your name and not in our own. Lord, will we give all glory and honor and power and praise to you and to you alone...

AMEN.
